We’re teaming up with our neighbors, the Holland Area Arts Council, to bring your ideas to life this spring! In our Spring Maker’s workshops, we’ll start by creating designs using Groundworks’ digital tools. Then, we’ll head over to the HAAC’s ceramics studio to show you how to turn those digital designs into real, handcrafted clay pieces.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the essential steps for converting line art and vector graphics into custom stencils and 3D printable molds using the web-based 3D modeling software, Tinkercad (FREE). Attendees will leave with the skills to bridge the gap between digital design and tangible ceramic art.
About Kellyn Sanders:
Kellyn is a Board Certified Medical Illustrator with a Master’s from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a BFA from Grand Valley State University. By day, she creates 3D medical animations that translate complex science into clear, empathetic visuals. By night, she is a ceramicist, exploring form, utility, and storytelling through clay.
Her most recent works have been merging these practices by using 3D printing to design tools, generate forms, and cut vinyl stencils from her own illustrations. Much of her work is inspired by Michigan’s landscapes and cultural landmarks, especially Holland, where she currently lives. This blending of technology and tradition allows her to experiment with scale, texture, and utility while celebrating place and community.
Whether she is animating the human body or crafting a vessel that reflects local beauty, her goal is the same: to make complex ideas and experiences more tangible through visual storytelling.
