Events › Maker-in-Residence Drop In

We’re changing up the Drop In sessions for the Winter! Maker-in-Residence, Marcia Schrotenboer, will give a brief intro to Urban Sketching then lead the group for a sketch-walk to various locations near the library. Open to all ages, no experience necessary. Participants may bring their own sketchbooks if preferred. 

Throughout the series of Drop In Sessions participants will each make a postcard with an Urban Sketch to be displayed as part of the “Lift Every Voice” Urban Sketch Exhibit - Art will be returned to the participant after the Winter Arts Festival.

About Marcia Schrotenboer:

Marcia's journey as an artist began during her time as the activity director at Freedom Village, where she found inspiration in resident Ruth Donaldson who enjoyed sketching. With the thought, "I wish I could do that," she made a decision that would shape her creative path: to be creative every day. From that perspective, sketching became both practice and meditation-an endeavor that has now filled over 75 sketchbooks. Her belief that creativity is inherent in everyone shines through her work, encouraging others to find their own artistic voice.

Driven by this philosophy of shared creativity, Marcia founded the Urban Sketchers of West Michigan-starting as its only member. Today, it has grown to a thriving community of over 750 sketchers, united by a passion for art, place, and connection. She regularly shares her artwork on Instagram, @a_cup_of_happy.
