If You Want to Write Memoir…

6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Herrick Main Library

Description

In this 90-minute workshop, award-winning writer and writing coach Elizabeth Trembley will introduce participants to the basics of memoir and how to write it. We’ll work hard and laugh some too, but most of all we will learn how to get to work on the adventurous journey that is memoir making.

Together we’ll look at what makes memoir a unique and powerful genre. We’ll talk briefly about story structure and how it applies to memoirs as well as fictional stories. We’ll brainstorm different ways we can get started from our first basic ideas through our chaotic initial writing and outlining, to deciding about research to (surprise!) discovering what it is we really want to say. (Hint: the memoir we think we are going to write is almost never what we end up writing! Why? Because we discover so much along the way!)

Whether you have only a few ideas or hundreds of pages already drafted, join us to talk about making memoir, to meet fellow memoirists, and to learn a few specific techniques you can take home and put to use right away.
